MEETING WITH NATIONAL MEDIA COMMISSION (NMC)
STRATEGIC AND IMPACTFUL IMPLEMENTATION OF ELECTORAL AND INSTITUTIONAL REFORMS IN GHANA (SIIE-IR 2023-2025) AHEAD OF GHANA’S 2024 ELECTIONS PROJECT
BACKGROUND
The SIIE-IR 2023-2025 project was designed by the European Union (EU) as a result of gaps identified by the EU Election Observer Mission (EUOMs) before, during, and after the 2020 general elections in Ghana. The Mission after the elections made 18 recommendations to fine Ghana’s electoral process for the 2024 general elections and beyond. Five (5) out of these recommendations have been prioritized by the Commission for implementation. Generally, the projects seek to promote the implementation of the EUOM-Ghana 2020 recommendations for credible and peaceful electoral outcomes in 2024.
Over the years, post-election recommendations by the EUOM have received limited attention from stakeholders in the election value chain. This has been attributed to the lack of local champions who would own and facilitate the implementation of these proposals. For this reason, the European Union commissioned IDEG and Norsaac to advocate and facilitate the implementation of 5 priorities before the 2024 general elections.
